Where does the money go?
Date Posted: 10/02/2010 | Posted by: Vic Smith-DunnThe PTA began the New Year with a positive start. Thanks to your support and our fundraising events we were able to hand over another cheque for £900.
This money has enabled the drama department to rent out a professional theatre space for the Year 12 and 13 A Level Theatre Studies exam, which will take place in the spring term. They currently have 21 very keen students taking A Level Theatre studies as an option. This is the largest group of theatre studies students that they have had and they have been impressed with the amount of interest, energy and commitment they have shown to the subject. We have been able to nurture their enthusiasm by giving them the opportunity to perform in a professional environment for this vital exam.
A £200 contribution was made to the Science department towards support in exam performance.
The resource centre had also applied to the PTA for funding to support a visit by an author for World Book Day in early March 2010. The author is Kjartan Poskitt, author of the Murderous Maths series. This visit would support Rossett’s status as a Maths and Computing school and engage pupils of all abilities. His books appeal to both boys and girls and he aims to make maths fun and appealing. He visited Ashville last year and was very well received. We were delighted to be able to support this event.
Our goals between now and the end of the summer term will be to enable the art department to purchase 3 scanners to compliment the resources already within the faculty. Pupils will benefit from the opportunities to develop their art in exciting ways by scanning it and using software to digitally manipulate their work. The art department could then make their excellent collection of art books more accessible. Pupils could also gather images from books rather than just the internet when researching artists. The scanners will also allow the possibility of reproducing paper-based artwork and a ‘virtual sketchbook’ could be created from examples of pupils work.
We also aim to fund the purchase of additional equipment for the teaching of First Aid within the PSHE curriculum and the First Aid club and fund additional resources for the Modern Foreign Languages and Religious Studies departments.
None of this will be possible without your support. The funding PTA offers to the school is greatly appreciated by the staff and pupils as the resources we provide lay outside of the schools budget.
Thank you for you ongoing support.
