Grease Sing A Long
Event Date: 03/07/2009
Location: Rossett school hall
Time: 7.30 | Tickets Required: Yes | Price: £5
The Grease sing- a- long was great fun mainly thanks to Mrs Waddington and her wonderful team of singers who helped create a great atmosphere. Lots of people dressed up and with hot dogs, bottles of coke and ice cream soda Rossett was transported back to the 50s. Whilst watching the film the audience, with a little encouragement, joined in the singing and Mrs Waddington taught everyone a mean hand jive which some of us just about picked up as the song ended! Thanks to everyone who supported this event by helping organise it or by buying a ticket. Mamma Mia next time? Well… just maybe!

A big thank you to Odd Bins in town who sponsored the event and made it possible for us to raise an outstanding £333.20 Their wine is outstanding value for money and in some cases cheaper than the supermarket, so when you think wine, think Odd Bins, it would be nice to repay them for their generosity with our custom.

Acoustic Evening
Event Date: 19/03/2009
Location: Rossett School
Time: 7.30pm | Tickets Required: Yes | Price: £5 per ticket
The acoustic evening was a resounding success. The following performed; Joe Hughes, Glen Matthews, Jonny Armstrong, Mary Littlejohn, James Tait, Abi Condon, Unplugged In, Rob Durbin, Youcef Preston and Kid October. Joe and Glen performed a Bob Dylan song, Mary showed off her acoustic guitar skills and James lulled the audience almost hypnotically with a mesmerising performance of self penned melancholic songs. Abi, acompanied by Rob on guitar amazed the hall with her vocal ability. Rob impressed by playing solo on guitar a Miles Davis number followed by 'Georgia on my mind' - nice. Youcef has already been praised by Simon Cowel and you can see why. Youcef belted out covers and his own material with energy and passion. If the hairs on the back of your neck were not already raised then they certainly stood to attention at the opening vocals of Josh from Kid October. The band punched out songs with a musical ability that makes you wonder what the future could hold for them. 'Dance with Me vs Umbrella' is an outstanding arrangement of the Dizzee Rascal and Rhianna songs and was certainly a highlight of the evening. One of their new songs 'Small Town' has deliciously simple lyrics with keyboard highlights that had the audience wanting more. Acompanied by Danny on guitar and Tom on keys it was the perfect end to an enjoyable evening. Watch out for photos to be posted and maybe even video.

Online Charity Auction
Event Date: 27/02/2009
Location: This website
Time: Ends 27th February
The auction has been a great success, raising over £1,000!
Online bids were taken forward to the sale itself, held on a Friday night, where Mr Lyell acted as auctioneer. He rose to the challenge brilliantly. Dressed in a fetching red jacket with matching shoes, topped off with a trilby, he got very readily into character – talking up the lots and encouraging people to bid against one another. It was quite a sight to see the auctioneer taking bids from the floor, ‘off the wall’ and from himself – all at the same time. My Lyell’s poor wife even had to take a “live” phone call where some might say she was “duped” in to making a successful bid.
Sterling support was provided by Mr Eady, who reminded us all why we were there, giving us a flavour of the spending funded by the PTA last year – for example on buying bivvy bags for the students to use on expeditions. Mr Eady was also central to the grand finale, where he turned barber and completely shaved off the hair of a very brave parent! That sponsored hair removal alone raised £165.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made bids and got involved. Particular thanks go to the staff, especially Mr Lyell and Mr Eady, who gave up their Friday evening to help make such a successful event.
